GIS/GPS MAPPING

  • Computerized drawings of the Kiski Authority's and the communities serviced by the Authority sewer lines. These sewer lines are then layered over aerial photography of the Kiski Valley. GIS/GPS mapping is also a database where all records or comments regarding the sewer systems are stored for future use.

COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOWS

  • In 1994 the United States Environmental Protection Agency published new regulations for communities and sewage treatment plants that have sewer lines that take in sanitary sewage and storm water. In the Kiski Valley area there are 31 combined sewer outfalls. These outfalls discharge rain water and sewage to the Kiski River during moderate to severe wet weather events.
  • In the near future the Kiski Authority will be required to prepare a Long Range CSO Control Plan. The results of this plan must limit these wet weather discharges to four per year per combined sewer outfall or insure that the discharges from these CSO outfall contain no solids or bacteria. The help of the entire Kiski Valley area will be required to prepare OUR Long Term CSO Control Plan.
